- Writing
Journal for English 103: Throughout the
semester you will be reading different articles,
lyrics, short stories and other information in your
text book. After each reading you will need to write
a 1 page critical response. How do these readings
relate to your life? What kind of connections do
these reading make with arguments? Your response
will be due on the day the reading is due. I will
grade and respond to your response and then you will
have the option to revise your response to be
included in your portfolio.
-
- - Compose texts in various
media using solid logic, claims, evidence, creativity,
and audience awareness.
- - Develop strategies for
becoming more critical and careful readers of both their
own and others’ texts.
- - Take responsibility for
their own progress.
- - Understand that
persuasion, both visual and verbal, is integral to reading
and composing.
- - Understand how persuasive
visual and verbal texts are composed for different
audiences and different purposes.
The writing journal asks the students to be critical
and reflective about the information they are asked to
read outside of class. Many of the discussion in-class
will depend on the students understanding of the
readings. Asking the students to reflect on the readings
before class ensures that the students have at least
read the information and thought about how the reading
connects to the work we are doing in class.
