Course Rationale (Peer Review)

In-Class Peer Review for English 103:
For each paper the students will partake in an in-class peer review session. The students will bring in questions of their own for their readers to look at in addition to a sheet of questions I will provide. The students will work in groups of 2-3 and after answering the questions on paper the students will talk about the suggestions and options the student has before the draft is due.

     - Develop strategies for becoming more critical and careful readers of both their own and others’ texts.
     - Take responsibility for their own progress.
     - Develop the ability to work well with others on composing tasks.

The students' exposure to their classmates' work allows students to see how their classmate interpreted the assignment and compare that to their own work. Students will learn different strategies for revision from comments made during peer review and from looking at others' work. Having the students work together in small groups prepares students for the group project at the end of the semester.
